New members guide to finding the start point
In our programme and on the website we will list the date, time and location of the walk and a link to a map of the route if we have one. There is also an OS grid reference and a What3words. location.
- If you click on the grid reference link it will open a link to Streetmap.co.uk, where you will see a large arrow showing the start point.
- Once you get to the Streetmap site, you will see an option to convert coordinates near the bottom of the page. Selecting this will give all variations your car sat nav or phone need. For example if we start a walk at Fen Bog which is just before the junction to Goathland, clicking on (SE855975) in this example will take us to the start.
- If you have the What3words app on your phone, entering the words will give you an option to navigate to the location.
- We recommend having the What3words app on your phone. The emergency services can use What3words to locate you precisely if you ever have to call 999.
Walking the Public Rights of Way of Yorkshire and beyond
Our well managed group is run by a committee of eight members. We walk together every weekend and occasionally on weekdays all year round and on weekday evenings in the summer...
We are keen to promote car sharing and either the walk leader or the walks coordinator will assist when possible in reducing the number of vehicles travelling to the start of walks by arranging car sharing. Phone numbers and e-mail addresses are shown on the back of the programme.
If you would like come on a "taster walk" you can either telephone or e-mail us on the link below or just turn up. Weekend walks can vary between around five and twelve miles in length so check your ability and look at the ascent and grading (Easy, Moderate or Challenging). This is always indicated in the programme.
If you enjoy your first walk and come again the annual subscription for 2024 of £7 is due on your second walk. This helps offset our expenses and keep this website going. Our group is affiliated to the Ramblers and we strongly support their aims and objectives. We hold civil liability insurance to help protect our leaders and members.
